Safety and Security

The safety of your son or daughter is our primary concern. Salve Regina University's office of safety and security operates around the clock to protect students. The professional staff works to prevent crime, provides high-visibility security patrols, promotes fire safety and responds quickly and effectively to the university community's needs.

The university is located in a very safe neighborhood, but we still take all the necessary precautions to prevent or minimize any incidents. The university publishes crime statistics in accordance with the Crime Awareness and Campus Safety Act of 1990. The most recent report is available at www.salve.edu/service/safety/crimestats.cfm.

Salve Regina University is very committed to making students aware of fire safety. We believe that preventing fire with education, planning and preparation is the key to campus fire safety. We begin the process at freshman orientation and continue throughout the academic years with regular fire drills and inspections. The University has made major facility investments to ensure that our residence halls, even the historic ones, are sprinkled. In all of these efforts, the Salve Regina office of safety and security works closely with the Newport Fire Department.
