| Applying to
Salve Regina as a Transfer Student
Every fall, approximately 10% of our new incoming
students have transferred from another college or university. For
some students, transferring has always been a part of their educational
plan; for others, it is a move based on dissatisfaction with their
previous college. There are about as many reasons for transferring
as there are transfer students. Whatever your circumstances are,
we will do our best to make your transition as smooth as possible,
and we will always treat you like an individual.
Requirements for Transfer Admission
Every applicant comes to us from a unique situation. However, as
a general rule, the more college courses you take, the less we will
depend on your high school record to make an admissions decision,
and vice versa. The average college GPA of the students who were
offered admission last year was 3.05.
Applying as a Transfer Student
You must submit:
the admissions application with the $40 fee
high school transcripts and/or GED
two(2) letters of recommendation
personal statement
college transcripts
SAT scores*
Dean of Students Certification Form from each college you attended (download here)
* SAT scores not required if you have earned at least 30 college
credits
If you have applied to Salve Regina before, simply download
the Request for Reactivation of Application.
After your application and all the supporting documents are received, we will usually respond to you within six weeks. If you are currently enrolled in courses, we may ask for a Mid Semester Grade Report before we make an admissions decision. You may download the Mid Semester Grade Report Form here.
Credits
In your acceptance package, you will receive a postcard that you
may return to us in order to request an unofficial credit evaluation.
Credit is generally received for any course from a regionally accredited
institution in which a grade of C or above is earned. Your progress
towards a degree can be gauged by how closely the course of study
you have taken matches the degree requirements at Salve Regina.

Enrollment, Orientation, and Class Registration
You will receive more detailed information regarding Orientation
when you formalize your enrollment by sending the $500 commitment
fee ($300 for commuters) and reservation agreement. Orientation
is typically held a week before the semester begins. Orientation
is a one day program that is tailored to the specific needs of transfer
students. At Orientation, you will have a one-on-one meeting with
an academic advisor, and will finalize your course registration
at that time. Attendance is required for all students enrolling
at Salve Regina for the first time.
Laptop Initiative Program
All entering freshman and transfer students who graduated high school in 2006 and beyond pay a one-time fee and receive a laptop computer loaded with all of the necessary software applications used by the University. This fee also includes full-service technical support from Salve’s IT Department. Visit the IT Department’s link at http://www.salve.edu/offices/it/laptop/ for detailed information.
Housing
The availability of on-campus housing for transfer students varies
from year to year. We will work closely with residence life to accommodate
your request for on-campus housing. If it is not possible to grant
your request, we will assist you with finding a local realtor. The
rental market for student housing in Newport is large, so most students
do not have much trouble finding a residence off-campus.
Financial Aid
Required Forms:
CSS Profile SRU Code 3759
FAFSA SRU Code 003411
SRU application for financial aid
All these forms are available on the Financial
Aid page.
A Note on Entry to Academic Departments/Declaring
a Major
Students should be aware that it is possible to meet the standards
for transfer admission but not the requirements for a specific major.
The Nursing and Education departments both have specific steps a
student must take to gain entry to their programs and officially
declare the major. We will do our best to counsel you as to whether
your transfer plans are feasible. However, it is the student's responsibility
to investigate the requirements for the majors they intend to declare.
Mid-Year (Spring) Transfers
The time period for Spring Admission is very compressed, so you
should submit all of your information as early as possible. Spring
Admission is not recommended for students who have struggled academically
in high school. Housing cannot always be guaranteed for students
entering for the Spring semester.
Priority Deadlines
Fall Admission: March 1st
Spring Admission: December 15
Filing forms for Financial Aid: March 1st
Applications received after these priority dates will be reviewed
on a space available basis.
Student athletes should obtain a release form
from their athletic director before contacting Salve Regina coaches.
If you have any questions, feel free to call
the office of admissions at 888 GO SALVE. Or, email the transfer
counselor.
