Julie Cairns

Associate Director of Admissions
BS, University of New England
Member: NACAC, NEACAC
Joined Salve Regina's staff in August, 2003

E-mail: julie.cairns@salve.edu

Julie arrived at Salve Regina with ten years of admissions experience under her belt, and a whole lot of enthusiasm! She is currently responsible for the admission publications and special admissions projects in addition reviewing applications. She also recruits on the North Shore of Massachusetts and in her home state of Maine.

Julie has always found admissions to be rewarding. She says that for her, the most fulfilling aspect of this field is "working with students and their families as they explore higher education. If we help students with any aspect of the college search process, regardless of where they end up enrolling, then we have done our job."

Over the years, Julie has had many adventures on the road. She recalls one particular time when, after a college fair, she was lost in Northern New Jersey, near the George Washington Bridge, at 10:00 pm. With nobody else to turn to, she consulted a Domino's pizza man for directions to her hotel. Instead of providing her with verbal or scripted directions and then letting her fend for herself, the Domino's employee actually drove to Julie's hotel, with her in tow. Now, with two young daughters' future travels in mind, Julie finds relief in modern conveniences – namely Map Quest, cell phones and On-Star – that replace the pizza man as a primary navigation resource.

Nowadays, with two children, time alone is rare. Any leisure time Julie does get she spends reading or shopping. Otherwise she, her husband and the girls enjoy family adventures to zoos, beaches and playgrounds. Apparently, they do a little cartoon watching too; when asked what her dream vacation would be, Julie quickly responded, "We'd go to Australia, so the girls could see the home of "the Wiggles"!"
